John Gomperts Appointed Director of Americorps

The Corporation for National and Community Service recently announced that John Gomperts will serve as the new Director of Americorps. Gomperts previously served as the Chief of Staff for the Corporation's former CEO, Harris Wofford. He also has a vast amount of relevant experience as the President of Civic Ventures, Director of Experience Corps, and Chief Operating Officer at Public Education Network.  On Capital Hill, he was the first legislative director for Senator Harris Wofford of Pennsylvania; and deputy director of the Senate Democratic Leadership Committee, working for Senators Tom Daschle of South Dakota and John Kerry of Massachusetts.

AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service that offers opportunities for 75,000 adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. It is comprised of three main programs: 1) AmeriCorps State and National, which supports a broad range of local service programs; 2) AmeriCorps VISTA, which provides full-time members to community organizations and public agencies; and 3) AmeriCorps NCCC (National Civilian Community Corps), which is a full-time residential program for men and women, ages 18-24, that develops leaders and strengthens communities.
